Ruby on Rails 3 can be hard to get up and running, especially on Windows. That’s why I changed to Ubuntu. You can too, by running a virtual machine.

I live and work from Hobart, Australia. Keep watch for some articles and tutorials.
The Path to a Ruby on Rails Job
It is my aim to become a ruby on rails developer. However it is a means to an end – I want to create websites that produce business value, and I believe ruby on rails is the best tool to do this.
Therefore to be chosen as a ruby on rails developer within a company I have asked around for tips on what will make me stand out. Here is what I have so far (from most favourable to least):
- have examples of your work on github
- have your own gem that provides value to others
- be active in the open source community
- be a bug fixer for open source projects
- get a good rep on http://workingwithrails.com/
- write/present tutorials on ruby or rails
- get a good post count in ruby or rails forums (useful and helpful posts of course)
- blog about ruby and rails
If anyone else (especially people who hire rails developers) has other things I can do to up my profile then post a comment please. I purposely left out contributing to the rails core, for if you are doing that then you probably already have a rails job!
